Who I am
Hi, I’m Michela, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). I have over 13 years of experience working across a range of mental health settings in Ireland, including the HSE National Counselling Service, Counselling in Primary Care, and over a decade supporting university students at Trinity College Dublin. More recently, I worked with The Adult Autism & ADHD Practice, completing neuroaffirmative autism assessments, which deepened my interest in neurodivergence and late diagnosis.
I work with adults experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, self-esteem challenges, identity questions, and relationship concerns. I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent adults, including those navigating late-diagnosed ADHD and autism, and I aim to offer a space that is both LGBTQIA+ affirming and neurodiversity-affirming.
My approach is grounded in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), which means we pay close attention to emotional experience, attachment patterns, and the ways our relationships shape how we see ourselves and others. I am also increasingly informed by somatic and nervous-system-based approaches to trauma, including Somatic Experiencing–informed principles, and I continue to develop my training in this area. This allows us to work not only with thoughts and feelings, but also with how stress and trauma are held in the body, always at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
In therapy, I place strong emphasis on building a trusting, collaborative relationship. Many of the people I work with have spent years pushing themselves, minimising their own needs, or feeling that they have to cope alone. My aim is to provide a space where you can slow down, feel understood, and begin to develop greater self-compassion and emotional clarity.
Alongside my professional experience, I am also a mother to young children, which has deepened my understanding of the emotional demands many adults carry, and the importance of creating a life that allows room for both care and connection. I believe meaningful change happens not through pressure or “fixing”, but through feeling safe enough to explore what has shaped us and what we need going forward.
If you are looking for a therapist who is warm, thoughtful, and attentive to both emotional and nervous-system experiences, I would be glad to support you.
